True Endurance

"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross.." (Heb.12:2). I hope you read the above scripture carefully. It says that Christ was able to endure the shame of the Cross because of the joyful outcome: millions of sons and daughters saved from hell and enjoying eternal life with God. Think about this scripture: "But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in them" (John 17:13). Whatever we have to endure, we can do it because of the joy of Jesus in our hearts. This joy is not a passive emotion. Look at some of the words for joy in the Hebrew language: "rinnah" (Psa.30:5) means "to shout in triumph". The word "gil"(Habb.3:18) means to "dance for joy, to spin around with great joy". The word "sameach"(2 Chr.7:10) means "happy, cheerful, festive". How could a woman beaten with chains for her faith and threatened with death unless she denied Jesus, overcome, endure and stand her ground against all odds? Yet Isabel Allum endured with the joy of the Lord and is still traveling the world with her husband, Ivan, bringing God's Word to the four corners of the globe. Be encouraged.

“Delight”

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord(roll and repose each care of your load on Him) trust (lean on, rely on and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass" (Psa.37:4-5 Amp.). The Lord desires to have us seek Him. He promises to add the things we desire when the time is right. The key is to commit our way to Him. The Hebrew word for "delight" is chaphats which means "to bend". Bending our wills to God's  will because we have experienced the unconditional love Jesus has for us. Another meaning is "to be favorably inclined", a willingness to follow the Lord because we delight in the Person of Jesus. In 1980, a prophet named Dick Mills came to our church. He would prophetically give scriptures to people that  were both special to them as well as providing direction. I leaned over to Ina and told her "he is going to give you your life verse from Psalm 37:4-5." A few minutes later he called Ina out and gave her her life verse! That scripture has always been her delight.

The Secret to Prosperity

“The Secret to Prosperity” (Psalm 1)

The Secret to Prosperity

What 3 Areas of Our Lives Must God Govern?

Walking: Psalm 1:1. We are not to walk with the ungodly, nor take their advice (examples include: horoscopes, non-christian based counseling, advice columns, etc). Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Ephesians 5:15 - See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.

Standing: Psalm 1:1. What are our stand-ards? Do we stand for godliness or do we tolerate carnality in our homes? We identify ourselves by the people with whom we stand and we are called to withstand Satan’s darts. Psalm 134:1 - Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who by night stand in the house of the LORD! 2 Chronicles 20:19 - Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high. 1 Samuel 19:3 - And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak with my father about                you. Then what I observe, I will tell you.” Ephesians 6:13-14 - Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness.

Sitting: Psalm 1:1. In Ephesians 2:6, we are told we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, not with scorners. Sitting implies “being at ease with”, as we would sit with friends for food and fellowship. We should not have fellowship with scorners of the Lord!

What Should Our Attitude Be Towards God’s Word? We should delight in it – Psalm 1:2. Delight in God’s Word can only come as we meditate (meaning: to speak, imagine, actively concentrate, chew upon) on it. Psalm 1:2 - But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. Rotherham’s translation says”…and in His Law or Instruction does he talk with himself day and night”. This means he (the righteous) starts and finishes his day with God’s Word. His days are full of joy because his mind is on the things of God. His nights are peaceful for the same reason. Note Psalm 1:2 will prevent the negative aspects of verse 1 from occurring.

Hear God Speak

What Should Our Motives be for Hearing?

Hear God Speak

We must be determined to hear

(Psalm 85:8) God will speak to His people and He will speak peace to His people. (Eccl. 5:1) We need to be more ready to hear than to speak. This thought is echoed again in Deut. 31:12.

God will speak peace to us and not condemnation

If your are getting a lot of condemnation in your prayer time, you are receiving from a religious spirit and not the Holy Spirit. God will not condemn you but He will speak peace to you.

Hearing involves watching and waiting

(Hab. 2:1, Proverbs 8:34) One of the things that God will do is speak through, what I call, similitude's, this Iiterally means word pictures.

I remember prophesying over an individual one time and the Lord showed me a giant pair of pinking shears. The Holy Spirit said, "Like Dorcas, in the Bible, this woman is a seamstress." That was exactly what she was. Another time, I was laying hands on a lady, in a prayer meeting, and the Lord showed me a nurse’s cap. That turned out to be her occupation. Another time the Lord showed me, over a man, chalk, blackboard, and an eraser. Turned out he was a teacher. Another time, the Lord showed me two women who would pour water on people’s heads and talk to them about the Lord. Turns out they were beauticians.

As we wait on the Lord, God will speak to us. One of the ways that God will speak to us is through impressions, gut feelings or hunches. God will speak to us through the word of God. God will speak to us through His still small voice. We will talk more about these later.

We need to become responsible for what we hear

(Isaiah 50:4, I Samuel 3:17, Mark 4:24) When God speaks to us He will confirm His word. It may not be immediate, but He will confirm His word. The Lord spoke to me that I would be involved in ministry by October of 1967. The time came when I was asked to be a teacher. I was going to turn it down but all of a sudden it dawned on me that it was October and I was to begin my ministry. It became a very fruitful ministry at that place.

Hear from God

We must hear with faith and not fear

Hear from God

(Mark 8:18) God when He speaks to us will not speak to us to produce fear. If you feel fear you are listening to the wrong voice. The Bible has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind     (2 Timothy 1:7).

When we hear and obey we experience life

(John 5:25) When the voice of the son of God comes to us it will produce life.

I have a good friend who is a great pastor and minister in the Canadian and West Coast area. As a young lady she was asked to preach, but she fought and ran from the call of God and wound up being paralyzed. God spoke to her again and said, "If you will heed my call and do my will, I will raise you up." How many know when you get to the position you're hurting like that, you're ready to do what God wants you to do. She said, "Yes." That afternoon God sent a missionary that had never met her before into her hospital room. He came into the room and said, "God sent me to touch you, to lay hands upon you, and to bring resurrection life to you because you said to God you will heed His call." He ministered to her, she was quickened, and rose of that sick bed and began to preach the Gospel.

To hear God's voice we must belong to Him

(John 1 0:27) "My sheep hear my voice and they will not follow another." Make sure we are obeying the voice of God, following the voice of the good shepherd.

Coveting to prophesy will develop a keen ear

(1 Cor. 14: 1) Of all the spiritual gifts we should covet (desire greatly) to prophesy. If we do that we will begin to, as it were "gird up the loin of our mind" and press into the presence of God to hear His voice so we can edify and build up the church.

Ask God to open your ears

(Isaiah 50:4) Morning by morning I will waken the ears of my servant to hear as the learned, that He might have a word of wisdom for he who is weary.

I remember one morning a friend of mine, who is in the ministry, asked me to take his class for him. I went into this meeting and the Holy Spirit told me to speak on the peace of God. As I ministered one lady seemed to get more and more upset. Finally, the lady burst out and said, “I do not have the peace of God”. We stayed there and ministered to her and she gave her heart to Christ and the spirit of peace and joy hit that lady and she was transformed. God will waken your ear morning by morning to hear his voice.

A Restless Spirit

When we have a restless spirit, it is time for us to listen

A Restless Spirit

(Esther 6: 1) If you have an uneasiness in your spirit, if you are not moving in the confidence and peace of God, then you need to come aside and get clear direction from the Lord. You may even want to fast and pray for a few days until you can get clear direction. That uneasiness is one of the ways God uses to gain our attention.

God will give us a word from others

There are times when we are going a certain way and the Holy Spirit will interrupt us. Other times He may confirm we are moving in the right direction (2 Samuel 12:1).

I was in prayer one day and asked the Holy Spirit to please have someone call me and confirm that what I was hearing from Him was His very word. The next day a person called me and asked, "Were you in prayer and did you ask God for a word of confirmation yesterday?" I said, "Absolutely." That person said, "Well here it is." It was the very thing I needed to hear.

The obvious blessings of the Lord will confirm that we are hearing from God

(Romans 2:4) Maybe the Lord will pour out this blessing because He wants us to change. The Bible says it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance.

Through unanswered prayers

(James 4:3) We may be praying with the wrong motives. (1 John 5:14) We must pray according to the will of God. You may not be getting your prayers answered because you are not praying according to the will of God. (1 John 3:22)

We must keep His commands. Maybe you have un forgiveness in your heart and you are not loving the brethren as you should. (1 Peter 3: 7) If you have division in your marital life it will stop your prayers from being answered.

God will use disappointment to get our attention

(Numbers 14:40-42) Israel had rejected the voice of God and decided to do there on thing and invade a particular people. God told them that if they did that they would be defeated. They said that they were going anyway. They went out and got clobbered. God will use disappointment to get our attention.

God will use unusual circumstances

(Exodus 3: 1- 2) He used a burning bush to get Moses attention. One time I needed to get clear direction from God about a particular thing. The Lord said to me, "Ask me for a dream and I will speak to you in a dream." I said, "Lord I don't understand but give me a dream and answer me." That night the Holy Spirit gave me the dream that I needed and the particular thing I was praying about was revealed.

God will use failure

(Joshua 7:5) Joshua had sent out a small raiding party to defeat a very small town called Ai. It should have been an easy mop-up campaign for Israel but there was sin in the camp and they had presumed on the Lord. They went out, without seeking the mind of God first, and they were defeated.

God will use tragedy

(Numbers 21:4-7) One time, I was advising a man not to do something, and warning him that it would end tragically. He went out and did it anyway and it did indeed end tragically. However, the Lord had his attention.

God will allow sickness

(Acts 9:8-9) God got Paul's attention by striking him blind. God wound up healing him but that was what it took for Paul to stop the thing he was doing and to come aside and hear the voice of God. Then God meet his needs.

Hear God’s Voice

Hear God's Voice

Deal with negative emotions

(I Kings 19:12) Elijah was running from Jezebel. When you are running from something, you tend to be uptight, fearful, tormented, and unable to hear the voice of God. Elijah had to get away. He went into a mountain cave.

The Bible says, “There was a fire, but God was not in the fire; there was an earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake; there was a mighty wind, but God was not of the mighty wind. We have to deal with the negative emotions before we can hear from God.

We need to listen for that still small voice

That still small voice came to Elijah and God's still small voice will come to us as we learn to put away those negative emotions. (Proverbs 20:27) The spirit of the man is the candle of the Lord that searches all the inner parts of the heart.

We can move into the glory cloud of God

(Matthew 17:5) Jesus, James, John, and Peter were on the mount of transfiguration. It was on that mount that the glory of God descended in a cloud and God spoke out of that cloud. We can create that atmosphere, that environment, for God to move as we worship and praise God.

God's voice will bring joy

(John 3:29) The devil will bring condemnation but God’s voice will bring joy.

We can inquire of God

(Jeremiah 33:3) Ask of Me and I will show you great and mighty things that you know not. David inquired of the Lord many times. We can come before God with questions. God may not answer them right away but we can inquire of God and He will speak to us.

God's voice will feed us, gather us, carry us, and lead us

(Isaiah 40: II) I recall speaking in a youth meeting in New Orleans. I said, "God is speaking to me that there is a young man here and God will not give you another day unless you get yourself right." What I didn't know is that there was a drug dealer in that audience. He was the fighting the touch, the call, and the woo of God in his life. The Holy Spirit spoke to his heart and said, "I'm trying to gather you to me. Either you will be gathered to me or you will go to hell". That young man ran to the altar.

There should be a desire of truth and integrity

(John 7:17) If you have a desire for truth on the inward part of your heart God will not disappoint you.

God's word will stir our emotions and break up our hard hearts

(Jeremiah 23:29) The word of the Lord is like a hammer, it will break up the hard places of your heart. It is like fire, it will create a positive tender emotion in your heart where you are cold and indifferent. It was David that was confronted, by the prophet Nathan, concerning his sin of adultery and murder that he had tried to cover up. That word from God penetrated his heart and he repented.

Preparing to Hear from God

God's word will appeal to spiritually enlightened reason

Preparing to Hear from God

(Isaiah 1:18-19) God said, "Come and let us reason together." God was wooing Israel to turn from her way to God's way. God will appeal to what I call spiritually enlightened reason.

Things to Do to Prepare to Hear From God.

Use the name of Jesus to silence the devil.  (Matthew 16: 19) We can bind the power of hell with the name of Jesus. If you are being tormented or condemned, bind that spirit in the name of Jesus. Bind the spirit of confusion and spirit of distraction and let God speak to your heart.

Ask God to clear, any presumption or preconceived ideas from your mind. (Psalm 19: 13)

Wait on the Lord. (Isaiah 40:31) When we wait on the Lord our strength will be renewed like an eagle’s. The interesting thing is, the word for wait is "chavah"; in Hebrew it literally means to "wait with expectation."

Questions We Should Ask in Discerning the Voice of God

Does it go against our carnal nature? This means, God may be dealing with you to have you forgive somebody you don't want to forgive. It's a good chance God is dealing with you and speaking to you.

Does it build up and challenging your faith? (Joshua 1:6-7) God was challenging Joshua to do something that he could not do in the natural. With the help and grace of God he could do it.

Does it get you to act in a hurry? (Proverbs' 27: 14) If we are being lead by the Holy Spirit we will not be hasty.

We need to seek Godly council. (Proverbs 20:5) We are not to make war except by the multitude of good council. If it is God, He can confirm it by at least two or three witnesses.

Is it producing growth? Are you being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ? It will produce growth in our hearts and minds (Romans 8:29).

Develop a Hearing Ear (Psalms 29)

(Psalm 29:1-3) You must give God worship if your going to hear from Him. You can 't hear clearly from God if you rush into His presence. Study Acts 13:1-3.

(Psalm 29:3) God's word will wash us. This is confirmed in Ephesians 5:26. We need to make our minds ready and we wash our minds through the word of God.

(Psalm 29:4) God's voice is powerful. It will expose and reveal the real motives of our heart. Hebrews 4:12 reaffirms this.

(Psalm 29:5) His voice is different, it is kingly and commanding.

(Psalm 29:5) It will break up the hard places. It will break up the hard hearts.

If God is dealing with you He is dealing with your conscience (Romans 9:1).

(Psalm 29:7) God's word will give direction in the fiery trail.

(Psalm 29:8) God's word will speak to us in the dry place.

The dry place, when we fell everyone has Ieft us. It was God who spoke to Moses in the backside of the desert.

(Psalm 29:9) God's word is creative. God's word will produce powerful things as you give yourself to it.

(Psalm 29:9) God's word will stripe away the non-essential things. God's word will get right to where we need to be in God.

The Truth of God

Where does God want the truth to be?

The Truth of God

In the heart. Our speaking must first be based on our working. Note the pattern: It begins in the heart, then it is spoken (Mark 11:23, 2 Corinthians 4:13). If the truth is in the heart, we will walk uprightly.

Mark 11:23 - For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

2 Corinthians 4:13 - And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I  spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak

How do we stay free from back-biting?

1.            Get bust “working righteousness” and speaking truth.

2.            Talk positively about people when they’re not around. Build others up, not yourself.

What should our attitude be toward our neighbor?

Make sure you are a blessing by not seeking his harm in any way (Proverbs 3:29, 27:10). You may need him later! Don’t look for trouble (a reproach) in him. Our attitude must exemplify 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

Proverbs 3:29 - Do not devise evil against your neighbor, for he dwells by you for safety’s sake.

Proverbs 27:10 - Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend, Nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity; better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 - Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

How should the righteous view a vile person?

1.         We ought to condemn his attitude and actions (1 Corinthians 13:6). To the degree we hate iniquity, we will have joy.

1 Corinthians 13:6 – Love does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth.

Hebrews 1:9 - You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

2.       As the salt of the earth, we cannot afford to be neutral.

3.            Down with the silent majority.

Psalm 12:8 - The wicked prowl on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

4.            We out to hate the things we once loved.

Jeremiah 15:19 - Therefore thus says the LORD: “ If you return, then I will bring you back; you shall stand before Me; if you  take out the precious from the vile, you shall be as My mouth. Let them return to you, but you must not return to them.

5.            Remember, God will hold us accountable if we hold our tongue at the time we should “cry out”.

Ezekiel 9:4-7 – and the LORD said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.” To the others He said in my hearing, “Go after him through the city and kill; do not let your eye spare, nor have any pity. Utterly slay old and young men, maidens and little children and women; but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
